After chasing my kids down the street a few times, I have realized that if I scream and yell and stomp and scowl, they are not encouraged to return to me. In fact, that only makes them want to run faster in the opposite direction fearing the consequences of their actions.
But God’s grace is gentle and loving.
We have nothing to fear because He loves us perfectly. When we fully understand God’s great love for us, we will no longer be frightened by His coming judgement of the world (1 John 4:17:19).
It is a sign of spiritual maturity when we turn back toward our Savior knowing we deserve punishment yet are fully assured we will encounter only His grace and mercy.
Accepting His loving correction and training creates intimacy with Him.
Are you running away from God? Won’t you stop today, turn to our Father, and experience His love and faithfulness to forgive your sins for the sake of His Son?
