It was a Sunday night that God forever changed mine and my husband’s lives.
We had been married for almost 4 years, and had been trying to have children for 3 of those years with no success at all. Through it all my husband, Chris, was a rock: steady, strong in faith, and comforting, but my heart ached and longed to become a mom. It had been my dream ever since I was a little girl.
Eventually we thought about the idea of adopting. Our pastor at church gave us some numbers of people and agencies to call. The holidays were quickly approaching so my husband and I decided to wait until the next year to get started…
Little did we know that God was already working out His master plan.
On that unforgettable Sunday, I received a phone call from my mother in law that a member of her family was expecting a baby boy and she was thinking about giving him up for adoption. She was in a difficult situation and couldn't provide for the baby the way she wanted to.
Her due date was Jan 20th so we thought we would have a couple weeks to prepare for a possible addition. I can’t lie-- I was a nervous wreck! My own excitement scared me because I was so afraid of getting my hopes up only for her to decide to keep the baby. But through every moment, I prayed to God for strength and hope and He was there-- whispering in my ear, telling me to sit back and watch His plan unfold.
Still a couple of weeks out from the due date, one evening, as my husband and I are lying in bed I asked, "Do you think that this could really happen? Could this really be God's plan?"
To our surprise, the birth mom went into labor early! My husband and I, along with his mom, rushed to the hospital, and our sweet Peyton was born a couple hours later. I just couldn't believe how fast God worked; in a matter of seven days, we went from having no hope of ever having a child to bringing a sweet baby boy of our own home.
How about you? Have you been praying for God to move in your life? Well let me tell you-- God will do it when you least expect it!
Put your trust fully in Him and His plan because, "My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says the Lord. "And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine." Isaiah 55:8 NLT
God's plan is eternal and perfect and He loves to show off! Who, but God could accomplish what happened with our sweet little guy who is such a joy and blessing to our family?
Whatever impossible situation you are facing, God has a plan for you too. It might not be what you expect, or happen when you want it to, but one thing is for certain: God knows what He is doing and, “works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
When you feel like there is no hope, keep holding on. Allow God to carry you as He carried me through those three years of waiting for a promise to be fulfilled. God sees the whole picture.
He was standing with you at the beginning,
He is walking with you now,
and He is waiting at the end.
He knows what you are going through. Just rest in His grace and believe that your time IS coming.
“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Ephesians 3:20
Lord Jesus thank you for your sovereign plan. Help me to put my trust in you because your ways are far greater than anything I could imagine. Give me peace and grace as I wait for your plan to work out. In Jesus’ name Amen!
