When we worry instead of trusting God, we uncover a lack of faithfulness. Instead of worrying, we should do as Paul tells the Philippians and “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let [our] requests be known to God” (Philippians 4:6).
When we do this, he tells us that “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). So by praying and giving thanks to God, we trade our anxiety for His peace. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me!
The reason we can do this with confidence is that we know He cares for us. How do we know this? Because the Bible tells us so, of course. Matthew 10:29-31 assures us that not even a sparrow, worth almost nothing in monetary value, falls to the ground apart from our Father’s will. All the hairs on our heads are numbered by our Creator. We are of more value to Him than all the sparrows.
Can you recall a time when you really cast your cares on God? What happened?
Are there things you need to hand over to Him today in exchange for His peace?
